MSTA receives $1.1 million grant for Gateway

Expanding the Gateway Trail System by 46 miles is no small task. It requires a lot of sweat, expertise, collaboration, and significant financial resources.

Our partners and supporters have been vital in getting us to this point—and we’re thrilled to announce that Mount Shasta Trail Association has been awarded $1.1 million via the Recreational Trails and Greenways Grant from the California Natural Resources Agency.

This funding (along with a large gift from the McConnell Foundation) should allow us to build out most of the trails in the Gateway expansion. We are extremely grateful to everyone who was involved in the year-long process of submissions, reviews, presentations, and sequential successful selection rounds. We couldn’t have done it without the U.S. Forest Service, master grant-writer Drew Braugh, and the MSTA board.

Moving forward, we will continue to raise funds to support maintenance of this huge trail system.
